Meet Sam!

Sam is a 3 year old Border Collie mix and is a healthy 65 lbs. Overall his personality is very sweet and cuddly. He really just wants to be an oversized lap dog. That said, he has plenty of energy to run around the yard and play with our other puppies!

Although he comes from a neglect and abuse situation, he has never shown an ounce of aggression. He has a couple of healed injuries, the most important one to know about is around his neck. He was left chained up for about 1.5 years outside and never had his collar adjusted, and it became embedded into his neck. He will forever have some scarring in that area, but many months of healing later we have been successful in putting a collar back on him, although we still use a harness for walks. He is as sweet as he can be and has proved to be a fast learner! He quickly picked up on the basic rules of our house and is very good with being on a set schedule. He loves food and is very food motivated! We are still working on his jumping when he gets super excited, but overall, he has learned a lot in his time with us and has proven to be a very well-behaved dog.

Sam still loves to be outside, but should never be chained up again, so we are looking to send him to a home with a fenced yard. He is respectful of humans but can be a little bit of a bully with animals smaller than him, especially when it comes to treats. He would do better in a home with medium/large dogs and older children. He has never shown any aggression but does sometimes flinch at sudden movement. So, an understanding and loving home is something he needs. He does not do well with chickens, as he thinks they are the coolest toy and won’t leave them alone.

Overall, Sam is just a sweet, cuddly boy looking for a forever home. He just needs a safe home to spoil him with love and treats. He is a great introduction to the Border Collie breed, as he has all the smarts of the breed, without the same level of energy. He will actually settle down for a nap after some exercise, instead of asking for more!
