Meet Dell!

Dell was surrendered to BRBCR by owners who were dealing with serious health issues in a family member, and they wanted the best for their pets. Dell is a sweet boy that is highly motivated by food. He is boisterous but can calm down well with a chew toy. He sleeps calmly in his crate at night. Dell wants to be your constant companion, will follow you around the house, and would love to be a lap dog once his exercise needs are met (although he may be a bit too large for some laps, cuddling on a couch at night would be a favorite activity!).

Dell is still working on manners, recall, and impulse control. He responds well to positive training and treats. Because he is a teenager with lots of energy, a fenced yard would be nice because he can entertain himself for a while by playing with a toy by himself – but don’t forget he loves his long walks, and even longer hikes! Dell could be your exercise partner for a weight-loss program; he will keep you moving!

Dell gets along well with his 3 foster border collie siblings, and his previous home said he got along with other dogs. He will be better in a home without cats because he tends to obsess strongly on his foster’s 2 cats and has given chase a few times. Older children should be fine with Dell, but because he is rather boisterous and close to 45 lbs., he might knock over smaller children.

Dell attaches strongly to his family and is nervous about meeting new people.
His adopter(s) should be prepared to build trust and help him build confidence and understand how to appropriately introduce him to visitors. When visitors enter the home, he may need a safe space – a crate or separate room – until he feels comfortable. In the foster’s experience, Dell has accepted new people more readily with each new introduction, but he will need adopters committed to continue working with him. (The experts here at BRBCR are always available to offer training advice, if you ask.) Dell will probably be most comfortable in a quiet environment that doesn’t have a constant stream of visitors.

BRBCR’s approval process includes phone interviews, reference checks, and a home visit prior to meeting a foster dog. Approved applicants must meet at the foster dog’s location. Every adoption begins with a 2-week trial period.

Dell’s adoption fee is $300.
