Meet Austin!

My name is Austin and I am an awesome doggo (even my foster mom says so!)!
A bit about myself: I LOVE being outside – walking, hiking, running, even hanging out when my foster mom goes out for coffee and a croissant (you never know what crumbs might fall or just happen to be near my mouth on the table (hee, hee!). My happy places are either outside or on the sofa snuggling up to my foster mom for belly rubs (can never have too many of those!). I am not so great at playing frisbee or fetching yet but I am pretty good at tug, if I do say so myself.

I am an expert sniffer and, sshhhh, I have a secret superpower – I can be a ninja counter surfer every so often. I do enjoy chewing a good piece of cardboard or some of my foster mom’s junk mail, which she says is more effective than her noisy paper shredder. I am pretty good on leash although those evil squirrels sometimes make me forget my manners. I have yet to meet a dog or a person I dislike and I usually want to play with other dogs when I meet them but, for some silly reason, my foster mom thinks 5:30 am is too early to be playing on our morning walks.

The shelter told my foster mom that I was a Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix but she says I seem more like that great, honorable breed – the American Mutt. I have a tiny little bald spot on my side in the shape of a heart and the vet and my foster mom say that is because I am such a sweetie. I am not a big herder nor do I have the prey drive, but I really like being near my foster mom and even my bossy foster sister.

I would love to stay here and be a city dog (did I mention that my foster sister is really very bossy??) and my foster mom says that is not fair to me to always have to deal with my pest of a foster sister. So if you are looking for a good hiking buddy or a cuddle bug, I am your guy!

From Austin’s Foster Mom:
Austin came to rescue through a very small shelter where he was adopted out twice as a puppy and returned for being “nippy” (that is what puppies do!). His previous foster family adored Austin and he came into rescue with his bed, toys, Christmas stocking and ornament.

He is a super sweet, mild-mannered dog who lives to be outdoors or snuggling up next to you for belly rubs. Unfortunately, my girl dog pesters poor Austin all the time and I do not think it is fair to a young dog to have to avoid the other dog in the house so often in order to maintain his peaceful existence.

Austin is crate trained, leash trained, house trained, and knows to wait until you cue him to eat. He sits patiently (mostly) to be leashed up to go outside. He is also a good hiking buddy and loves a good sniff. Austin can get mouthy when playing but is easily redirected to a chew toy. He is not cat tested.

The neighborhood dogs and people all love Austin and he loves them right back. Austin is very popular at the local farmers’ market, always wants to play with new dogs and wants to say hi to new people. Austin seems drawn to kids but I do not let him get too close to smaller neighborhood kids due to his size and strength.

Austin would really like a big backyard or someplace to run and play more regularly than a city-sized yard. He would do well with other dogs and/or older kids in the house (as long as the other dog is not so bossy).

If you are the perfect forever home for Austin, please fill out an application and contact his foster parents at labulan@gmail.com. BRBCR’s approval process includes phone interviews, reference checks, and a home visit prior to meeting a foster dog. Approved applicants must meet at the foster dog’s location. Every adoption begins with a 2-week trial period.

Austin’s adoption fee is $350.

Thank you for considering a rescue dog!
