Meet Pochi!

Pochi (pronounced Poe-Chee) is an approximately 2.5 year old pup. He is tall, long, and lean. He is thought to be a border collie/English setter mix based on appearance and mannerisms. He is an active young man who was a running buddy with his owner before joining the rescue.

Pochi settled into his foster home wonderfully. He’s extremely food and toy (balls and stuffed toys) motivated and smart. He’s been around dogs of all sizes and activity levels and cats. He was initially curious but neutral with his doggy foster siblings but after 24 hours became best friends with his Aussie foster brother that’s the same age and they play often. He is respectful of the other two dogs that don’t enjoy playing with other dogs. When not playing he has an amazing off switch and is happy to lounge and watch tv or read a book with his foster. He’s a pup that enjoys comfort and likes to be close by on the couch or in the bed. He has a funny (and adorable) habit of crossing his legs while laying down!

Pochi takes a bit of time to approach new people both in and out of the home but after the initial cautious response he is happy to accept food and love. He’s been tested with a dog savvy kid (4 years old) and again was cautious but then accepting food and love within 15 minutes and didn’t care about him jumping and running around by the end of the 30 minute visit to his foster home.

Pochi sleeps in the bed with his foster parent and their dogs at night and is crated while home alone. He is a little anxious in the crate but has been working hard on creating a positive association with it and is doing much better. He’d need some work on reinforcing this in his new home and being patient and consistent.

The only thing that Pochi doesn’t truly like is bathing and drying. He does okay for the bath with a lot of food for staying calm and doesn’t mind the towel drying but is very nervous with the hair dryer. He doesn’t mind any other part of grooming/handling including brushing, checking his teeth, playing with his feet, nail trims, and ear cleaning. He is also cautious of the vacuum while it’s running in the house but hasn’t shown fear of other loud noises including music and thunder.

If you are the perfect forever home for Pochi, please fill out an application and contact his foster parents at amoredvm@gmail.com. BRBCR’s approval process includes phone interviews, reference checks, and a home visit prior to meeting a foster dog. Approved applicants must meet at the foster dog’s location. Every adoption begins with a 2-week trial period.

Pochi’s adoption fee is $300.
