Meet Resa!
Resa is a lovely 5-month-old Border Collie that comes from rough beginnings. She is a bundle of joy packaged with typical Border Collie traits – curiosity, eagerness to learn and loving attention; everyone falls in love with this pup! Resa is really good-natured, a true love-bug, and would blossom beautifully with a BC savvy person. I believe she has the temperament and intelligence to become a solid dog. She might do well to have a buddy dog as she seems to have attached quickly to my dogs and comes from living with multiple dogs. Resa loves people and is overall a great puppy! She is an energetic and active puppy and is not for the first time border collie owner. She will do best with structure and someone that is training-savvy.
Resa is smart and catches on to routines and training very quickly! She is food motivated and toy motivated which makes training fun! Resa plays well with her foster siblings and respects them when they have had enough; she is dog savvy. Resa is learning about leashes, collars, and the harness. She still does struggle if it’s not what she wants, but typically she just follows along with me. She’s learning to sit/stand rather than jump on the side of the pen to get what she’s reaching for. She currently eats out of a slow feeder. Resa has been respectful when she has had opportunities to interact with the cats in the home. She is an absolute puppy and tries to get her way, but she is respectful of the dogs and cats when they’ve had enough of her puppy antics. Resa is well on her way to being house trained. She will cue having to go out if you pay attention. She has a predictable schedule for her bowel movements and prefers to go potty outside.
Resa needs a special person to understand her life will need to be a little different than a high-energy, drivey border collie going 24/7. An early puppy injury left her with a broken elbow on one front leg. Untreated, Mother Nature has done the healing already and surgery is not an option. Assessed by respectable orthopedic vets, the conclusion is intervention would create more harm. SO, RESA NEEDS A SMART LIFE USING HER BRAIN with games and walks and swimming if possible – everything should be low impact movement vs non-stop ball throwing where turns and twists would create pain. It’s best that if there is a canine pal, the dog is a mature aged one, not creating too much running and herding games. She can enjoy a canine pal playing inside but should be limited in hard, active running outside.
If you are interested in adopting Resa, please fill out an application and contact her foster parent at kjsweeney@radford.edu. BRBCR’s approval process includes phone interviews, reference checks, and a home visit prior to meeting a foster dog. Approved applicants must meet at the foster dog’s location. Every adoption begins with a 2-week trial period.
Resa’s adoption fee is $300. Since she is too young to be altered at this time, the Adoption Contract will include a Spay/Neuter Agreement which requires a deposit of $150 (to be refunded when veterinary proof of alteration has been provided).
