Meet Huck!
A Sweet, Special Needs Border Collie Looking for Love!
Let us introduce you to Huck, a gentle, affectionate, and curious Border Collie with a heart full of love and a few special needs. He’s intelligent, a little silly, and loves his daily walks. He knows basic commands like “sit” and “come,” and is incredibly gentle— leaning softly into you or resting his head on your knee to ask for affection. Sometimes he even thinks he’s a lap dog!
Huck has accepted every animal and person he’s met— dogs, cats, chickens, and humans alike (We have not tested children, but he seems to like them when he sees them!). Having likely spent his life as an outdoor dog, it’s been a joy to watch him discover soft beds, regular meals, toys, and tasty chew bones. He is 100% housebroken with bowel movements and about 97% with urination — and getting better every day. He now pees on command and wears a belly band indoors if he is left alone for longer periods.
Huck’s hard life left him with some ongoing health issues, mostly affecting his hind end. With medication and care, he’s improved significantly, but he will need daily medication long-term. He has mild to moderate hip dysplasia and some hind leg neurological deficits, which limit his ability to jump high, run hard, or manage full flights of stairs. Despite this, he enjoys outdoor play and exploring time in the yard and several leash walks a day — about 30 minutes at a time suits him well.
Huck is the perfect fit for a Border Collie lover who wants a loyal, engaged companion without the demands of high-energy activity. He’d do especially well with an older individual or couple looking for a sweet, calmer dog to share their life and love.

If you are the perfect forever home for Huck, please fill out an application and contact his foster parents at elizabethkelk@yahoo.com. BRBCR’s approval process includes phone interviews, reference checks, and a home visit prior to meeting a foster dog. Approved applicants must meet at the foster dog’s location. Every adoption begins with a 2-week trial period.
Huck’s adoption fee is $350.
