Meet Gus!

Gus is a big fella with an even bigger heart. He is 9 months old and about 55 pounds. He is likely a border collie or Aussie mixed with a livestock guardian breed such as a Great Pyrenees. Despite his large size, Gus is still very much a puppy with a happy and fun loving spirit. He is a cuddly teddy bear and instant friends with everyone he meets.

Gus was initially cautious when entering his foster home but quickly warmed up within a few hours with some gentle redirection and positive reinforcement for exploring. Gus has been tested with cats and other dogs of varying sizes and energy levels; he has done great with all of them. He has also been tested with varying types of friendly strangers including all genders and children 4y+. He requested snuggles and kisses from all of them and was calm with the kiddos. Gus would do well in a house with or without other pets and with any age or gender expression. He may even be a good therapy dog candidate with his calm demeanor. He is very much a “Velcro” dog and likes to be close to his people both indoors and outdoors.

Gus walks well on leash and enters his kennel on command. As a young dog in a new environment, he whines a little bit in the kennel but calms down. He is working on settling in the house while the other dogs are moving around and overall does well for his age with a little redirection and positive reinforcement (he’s extremely food motivated)! Gus enjoys playing with toys and seems to prefer stuffed toys and firm rubber toys (westpaw design, chuckit, etc). He has also picked up and carried items such as shoes and socks to present as a gift for some affection and willingly traded for a snack or more appropriate toy.

If you are the perfect forever home for Gus, please fill out an application and contact his foster parents at amoredvm@gmail.com. BRBCR’s approval process includes phone interviews, reference checks, and a home visit prior to meeting a foster dog. Approved applicants must meet at the foster dog’s location. Every adoption begins with a 2-week trial period.

Gus’s adoption fee is $300.
