Meet Charlie!

This puppy is a doodle – possibly crossed with a border collie, but most likely not. We’re awaiting the results of his Wisdom DNA panel which we will pass along with his medical records to his adopter.

Charlie and his sister were dropped off on a country road in extremely malnourished condition, but with a little food, some TLC and lots of love, they have both been recovering well. Sister was already adopted by her foster mom, but Charlie is still up for grabs.

Charlie is a calm puppy – especially by border collie standards. He is equally happy following mom during chore rounds on the farm, strolling through the neighborhood on a leashed walk and greeting all the customers at dad’s shop. He’s very likely NOT a sport dog star in the making, but he’s happily flexible. Want to go for a hike? He’s down (although you may have to carry him part of the way until he gets a little bigger). Want to binge watch something on Netflix? He’s ready to snuggle. Want to go for a drive? He’s a great rider in his crate. Need to squeeze in some yoga? This puppy knows zen. Honestly, there hasn’t been anything we’ve asked of Charlie that he’s balked at. With encouragement, he’ll try anything.

Charlie is submissive with the resident dogs (even our grouchy senior says he’s okay). He’s cautiously curious about the cat. He’s mostly indifferent to the ducks and the chickens. He lacks a little confidence – but has been making big strides since separated from his sister. He’s happy to act as back up when the farm dogs take off barking….as long as Mom is in sight.

While we can’t guarantee exactly what kind of dog Charlie will grow up to be, with good parenting, he should be a GOOD dog, and really what’s more important than that? He’s calm, sweet and friendly. He’s happiest when he’s with people. He completely lacks the judgmental side eye I’ve grown to expect in my herding dogs. He seems to love everyone.

Charlie is trained to sleep in the kennel – although he lets out two tiny howls when he first goes in, he settles quickly. He’s a fairly quiet puppy; he doesn’t bark a lot, but again, he does make the two nightly baby werewolf howls and has a displeased huff (very much like the Cowardly Lion) when put into his playpen.

Charlie is about 80% house trained – a regular schedule helps. He walks well on a leash and is working on learning Sit, Shake and “Where’s My Dog?” His long coat will require constant grooming, and he already does well being calm for brushing and nail clips. He’s unconvinced baths are totally necessary, however.

If you are looking for a calm, happy companion, Charlie may be the pup you are looking for!

If you are interested in adopting Charlie, please fill out an application and contact his foster parent hikeswithdogs4fun@outlook.com. BRBCR’s approval process includes phone interviews, reference checks, and a home visit prior to meeting a foster dog. Approved applicants must meet at the foster dog’s location. Every adoption begins with a 2-week trial period.

Charlie’s adoption fee is $350. Since he is too young to be altered at this time, the Adoption Contract will include a Spay/Neuter Agreement which requires a deposit of $150 (to be refunded when veterinary proof of alteration has been provided).

Thank you for considering a rescue dog!
