Meet Lassie!
Lassie is a petite, affectionate, and calm dog who just turned 5 years old in late August. She came to us through a shelter partner when her owner had to go into assisted living. Lassie lost her family and is now looking for a new one!
Although Lassie has not had much training in her life, she has been a wonderful houseguest. She walks well on leash, is housebroken, crate trained, and gets along well with the two neutered, male dogs in the household. Lassie is very calm in the house, satisfied to quietly chew on her chewy, or just sleep by your feet. She reportedly lived with a cat in her previous home, but we have not exposed her to cats while in foster care so cannot attest to how she is with them. She likes all people, including children, but she does jump on people when excited. We have been working hard on this, and she is improving, but jumping will be a detriment when around small children.
Lassie is a bit out of shape and could stand to lose a few pounds, but she loves to go on walks and so far, has been very well behaved when passed by cars, bicycles, and folks going by with obedient dogs on leash. I do not see her as a sport dog but she does like walking and hiking. She weighs about 47 pounds but 40 is probably more ideal for her.
Though Lassie knows her name (Lassie is her original name), her recall is not very good, through either lack of training or stubbornness, so she will need to be in a fenced yard or placed on leash whenever she is not confined or in the house.
If you are looking for a loving and dedicated companion to go with you on long walks or short hikes and is happy to just be with you all the time, this is the dog for you.

BRBCR’s approval process includes phone interviews, reference checks, and a home visit prior to meeting a foster dog. Approved applicants must meet at the foster dog’s location. Every adoption begins with a 2-week trial period.
