Coy is a gorgeous, long-haired border collie. He is very sweet with people and other dogs. He is motivated by love and affirmation, especially belly rubs, although he appreciates treats. Coy used to live on a farm where he worked sheep and goats. The farmer passed away earlier this year, leaving his wife to care for Coy and his brother, Duke, which was a lot for her to handle. Coy was kept outside in a kennel and not housebroken or played with. We have been working with him for a couple of weeks and he is a quick learner.
Coy will obey 'sit' and 'down'. However, he got away from me once and did not recall as well as I thought he would. He is very smart and I believe this will get better with more training. Coy walks well on a leash at home but pulls a lot at the park due to all the new sights, scents, and sounds. He will get better with continued training.
Coy is an extremely high-energy dog. He is like a bouncing fur ball and literally bounces like Tigger, in the same spot. He will need a home that gives him the opportunity to play or run hard. He would be wonderful at agility and/or flyball. He is taking an interest in frisbee and fetching. CLICK HERE to see a brief video of Coy's beginning interest in the frisbee!
Coy has been aggressive toward his brother which is a recent thing. He is great at the park with other dogs including one that growled at him. He has been great with our female BC. He is curious about our cat, but won't mess with him. I can't speak to how he will be with small kids. He is great with my early teen son who loves Coy's energy.
Coy is neutered and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. He is prescribed Keppra for seizures brought about by heartworm medication that occurred in April 2020, however there have been no reported seizures since.
