Sweet Rachel was a cruelty case who came into rescue very frightened and in bad physical condition (photo below). Her front teeth are worn down almost to the gum, apparently from trying to chew her way out of confinement. She is looking for a loving, secure home to live out her golden years. Rachel is now in good health and active for her age. She has gained a lot of confidence in her foster home but will need careful handling to help her continue to blossom. A fenced yard is a must so she has a secure place to exercise and explore.
Rachel took a road trip to Florida with her foster mom and did very well. She is nervous in the car but motion sickness medication made her comfortable. By the end of the trip she would actually jump in the car! She loved interacting with all the guys at the beach and happily jumped up on them when invited. She went in the water when it was calm and enjoyed exploring the beach.
She generally avoids other dogs and would do best as an only dog. She is living with multiple dogs now but shows no interest in interacting with them. She also ignores the cats but appears a bit too interested in the birds and ferret so probably would not do well with small animals.
Rachel has a very strong herding instinct. It appears that she has had some experience with sheep so she would need to be supervised around livestock.
She spooks at loud noises so she must be on a leash outside of a fenced area. Her leash manners have greatly improved and she has enjoyed taking several walks a day. Rachel is crate trained and housebroken.
