Meet Beautiful Mesa!
This pretty girl is very sweet, laid back when inside, active when outside, and has lots of love to give. Mesa is a 6 year old Border Collie x Australian Shepherd mix. She's big for a female Border Collie - she definitely has the face, head, and smarts of a Border Collie. She has the size, the coat, and the gentle sweet nature of the Aussie. Mesa was raised with young children and around livestock. She's a bit hesitant when she first meets new people. Meaning, she's slow to warm up, but once she knows you, she's a sweetheart. I would expect that she'd take awhile to feel comfortable around unknown children, as well.
Mesa has been an easy dog to care for in her foster home. She enjoys being brushed and fussed over. She will sit, lie down, and high five for a treat. She learns things fast especially if there is food involved. She's not much of a player with toys, but if you toss a treat to her, she will try her best to catch it. Mesa definitely needs a few romps around a fenced yard everyday. Then, she's ready to come inside and chill by your side or in your lap.
Mesa was a little bit unsure of what was going on her first couple of days here at her foster home. She seemed shy, but very quickly bonded with her foster mom and relaxed. Mesa goes outside for a romp in the yard first thing in the morning, then comes inside and lays down near her foster mom. She follows her around everywhere. Mesa's always ready for a few pets and rubs, and settles fast when she's inside. Like most dogs, she still needs time outside for exercise.
Mesa does have two quirks.. One is that she is thunder phobic. She gets worried, but does not get destructive. She just doesn't want to be outside during a storm. Here at her foster home, she goes into her crate, which is her safety place. And two...she will resource guard her person if another dog comes up for attention. If she's corrected with a stern verbal correction, she seems to respond well to that. But if another female dog were to get in her face, Mesa will not back down. Mesa is not the type of dog to take to dog parks!!
Mesa is housebroken, spayed, up to date on shots, is microchipped, crate trained, and loves rides in a car. She would be best in a household as an only dog.
