This sweet cuddle bug was found as a stray this winter. We don't know what the first year of her life was like, but she was probably a farm puppy. It seems that car rides, walking through doorways, long sets of stairs, and navigating furniture are all new to her. Being bombarded by all these new things in the shelter and in her new foster home has been a little scary! But she's been a brave girl and has already mastered many new skills, like getting in the car without help and sleeping on the bed with her foster mom. (Did we mention that she loves to cuddle?) Star will wait calmly in her crate, even though she would much rather be attached to a person at all times, and she is already crate and housebroken. She still needs a little confidence building and time to learn, but she has great temperament and is well on her way to being a star.
Like all young border collies, Star is full of energy. She loves to wrestle and run and would love to live with another playful dog. She plays well with dogs of all sizes and ages, and is respectful when older dogs tell her that they don't want to wrestle. She's happy to share toys and food and generally lets her foster brother be in charge of everything. We don't know what she thinks about cats, but she thinks cows are pretty neat!
Though a bit timid at first, Star loves people, and is polite when greeting strangers on walks. She has met several children and thought they were all swell. However, we recommend that Star does not go to a home with small children, because she's still learning some important puppy lessons. For instance, she loves to wrestle her people, and doesn't yet understand how rough is too rough. She's learning fast, though! She loves people so much that she is remarkably easy to handle: she'll let someone put on her harness or pick her up, let a stranger vet do a full exam, etc.
Star could be a great sport dog after she warms up a bit more to working for rewards. She loves food and toys, but right now, she is a bit weary when offered good stuff. In the past, people have probably only used food/toys to lure her to things that she still has negative associations with, like baths or kenneling, so this smart lady has learned that good stuff means there's a trick coming. But she has started to learn basic commands for cheese and will be a quick learner once she builds a little trust with her handler.
As long as she's had some fun activities, Star is happy to curl up on the couch for hours, especially if she has a bone or frozen kong. So if you're looking for an enthusiastic, energetic adventure partner who converts into the perfect cuddle buddy, Star might be your lady!
If you think this sweet girl is the right dog for you, please fill out an application and contact her foster mom, Skylar, at email@example.com. Star is heartworm negative. She's currently healing from her spay surgery and will need one more round of puppy vaccinations, but she's ready to start looking for her forever home. Star's adoption fee is $300, and we offer a two-week trial period when you adopt one of our dogs.
Thank you for considering a rescue!
