Griff is a one-year-old purebred Border Collie who is all puppy and GO, GO, GO! If you're looking for a dog that would excel on long hikes, runs, or at any dog sport or herding then this is your guy and you should keep reading. If you're looking for a cuddle on the couch, 2 walks a day kind of dog, then this isn't the guy for you.
Griff is a very smart, eager to learn dog, that is super toy and food motivated. He's crazy fast and learning that toys and exercise are the best, since he didn't have that in his previous life. He currently gets 9-11 miles per day and a lot of toy play at night. He is showing a lot of interest in frisbee and is good with rollers or easy tosses.
Griff isn't an apartment dog that can be left unattended for 8+ hours a day. He needs a large yard with a lot of room to run. He did not receive much training as a young guy and will need a new home that will be consistent with training. In a week with his foster family, he learned sit, down, go crate, touch and spin and is learning new behaviors. He trains with his meals and is very eager to learn.
Griff lives with two foster brothers and hasn't had many issues. He is food aggressive with other dogs and will need to be fed meals away from them. That is his only issue, and he has been friendly and playful with other dogs he has met. He would also do fine as a solo dog as he is very pushy for attention from his person. He is a Velcro dog and will follow his person from room to room keeping a watchful eye on them.
He is a somewhat nervous dog and can be a bit reactive to new people, mostly men, when he's in a new area. He will need an adopter who is willing to help socialize and desensitize him.
Griff is all puppy and loves to wrestle and play bite his person so would do best with no kids or older kids who respect dogs and have experience with them. He has not been cat tested but would most likely do best in a home with no cats or cats that are dog savvy. Breed experience is highly preferred as he isn't for the first time Border Collie owner.
To start the adoption process, please fill out an application and then contact his foster mom, Megan at firstname.lastname@example.org. All potential adopters are required to have a home visit prior to placement of one of our rescues. Griff's adoption fee is $300, and we offer a two-week trial period when you adopt one of our dogs.
Thank you for considering a rescue!
