Say hello to Harley, an energetic but gentle bundle of affection who we think is about a year old. He loves to gives kisses and stay near his favorite humans, whether in the house or playing outside in the yard.
Harley is about 25 pounds with a thick, almost entirely black soft coat of hair, and a regal patch of marbled white hair on his neck and chest, with a tiny sprig of white coming off the end of his tail. He's light on his feet and enjoys romping around with our other dogs, chasing a ball, or getting zoomies first thing in the morning. He is submissive with other dogs and loves to lay on his back for scratches and a wiggle.
Inside, Harley likes to play with our other dogs, but typically settles down after ten or fifteen minutes. His favorite spot is curled up on the floor at our feet. We've been crating him at night while we sleep, or if we leave the house. Although he needs some coaxing to go in, he doesn't make a fuss all night. In fact, we've barely heard him bark at all. We also crate him when leaving him home alone since he still has mild puppy chewing tendencies.
He has a good appetite and easily transitioned to the lamb and rice food we give our other dogs. He is food motivated and should be easily trained with treats. He does get distracted so training will need to be a consistent effort and doggie training classes would be a great idea. He walks amazingly well on leash and never pulls while naturally walking in a heel position. That said, he will need some training with his off leash behavior: he is prone to wanting to squeeze out the front door, and can be a little stubborn about recall -- not running off, there are just so many interesting things to sniff!
Harley is house broken and doesn't hesitate to relieve himself while on or off leash outside. However, he has had a couple of accidents inside. We think with regular and frequent bathroom breaks, he should get over this habit fairly easily. We have not tested him with cats yet, but he does show a keen (but non-aggressive) interest in the chickens and goats in our back pasture. He has jumped our five-foot tall woven wire fence easily so he will only go to a home with a tall, securely fenced yard for his safety.
Come by and meet Harley! He's looking forward to joining a loving home. You won't regret picking him as your next best friend.
To start the adoption process, please fill out an application and then contact his foster mom, Allison at firstname.lastname@example.org. All potential adopters are required to have a home visit prior to placement of one of our rescues. Harley's adoption fee is $300, and we offer a two-week trial period when you adopt one of our dogs.
Thank you for considering a rescue!
