Onyx came to us with her sister after landing in a shelter. They and six other dogs were seized by animal control, and then surrendered by their owner. Onyx was very thin when she arrived in rescue. We can only guess what her life was like, but in spite of all she's been through, she is one happy, sweet girl! She wants nothing more than to be near her people getting lots and lots of attention.
We were told that Onyx was a Border Collie/Heeler mix. That may be part of her heritage, but is by no means the whole story. Whatever breed she is, she is sweet, friendly, energetic and responsive to people. She's between one and two years old, but acts younger. She's always happy and excited. She needs to work on not jumping on people and on leash manners. However, with regular exercise, she settles very nicely in the house.
Onyx loves people. Her foster home is all adult, but when she met some young children on a walk, she went right up to them—and surprisingly didn't jump on them. She can be a bit mouthy, so she'll need a little work on that if she lives with children. She's good with the other dogs in her foster home and barely pays attention to the resident cats. She does show a lot of interest in critters that may be burrowing under the ground, so she will probably dig if left unattended outside.
Onyx is picking up on house training very quickly, but she needs just a bit more time before she can be considered 100% reliable. She's also very inquisitive and could probably find some mischief to get into, so she should be supervised or crated until she's proven that she knows the rules in a new home. Happily, she listens very well and is good in her crate. She only fusses in her crate when her people are active elsewhere in the house. She wants to be part of the action. She also rides well in a car, though she needs a bit of coaxing to get in.
Onyx would be a great addition to most homes. She's quick to learn and very eager to please. She would do well as a companion to another dog, but she would also be fine as an only dog. Onyx is spayed, micro-chipped and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives.
To start the adoption process, please fill out an application and then contact Onyx's foster mom, Cathy at email@example.com. All potential adopters are required to have a home visit prior to placement of one of our rescues. Onyx's adoption fee is $300, and we offer a two-week trial period when you adopt one of our dogs.
Thank you for considering a rescue!
