Thad is a stunning boy who was found as a stray with his brother Theo. He and his brother are two of the sweetest dogs his foster family has ever met. He's adjusting very well to his foster home, even though it's pretty clear from his early reactions that Thad never lived in a house before. In less than a month he's become house trained (here) and crate trained, learned to walk nicely on a leash, to come through doorways and to go up and down stairways. He's getting braver about jumping into and out of a car and rides nicely, either crated or tethered in the back seat. He's even been found making himself at home on the couch.
Thad was a little slower coming out of his shell with people, but in the last week he's really started to blossom. At first he only showed affection to his foster mom, but every day he is becoming more affectionate with the other people in his foster home. He seems to want to like people. With the progress he's shown, I don't think it will be long before he's jumping all over his new family and warming their hearts as he has his foster family's.
Thad hasn't got an aggressive bone in his body. He shows no interest in the cats in his foster home and is terrific with other dogs. He's submissive but wants to make friends. He's very playful and would love to have a large yard and a playmate to tire him out. He is a bit of an escape artist, so the yard will need a secure fence, preferably at least five feet tall.
Thad would do best in a relatively quiet home that will allow him the time he needs to bond with his new family. He's still a bit thin and responds to stress by skipping meals, so a little extra attention to his food will be needed. Since Thad has always had the companionship of his brother, he should have a canine friend in his new home. He could be adopted with his brother Theo, but he might adjust to his new family faster without having his brother to lean on.
If you would like to have Thad join your family, please fill out an application, and then contact his foster mom, Cathy, at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thad is neutered, heartworm negative, and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. All potential adopters are required to have a home visit prior to placement of one of our rescues. The adoption fee for Thad is $300. We offer a two-week trial period when you adopt one of our dogs.
Thank you for considering a rescue!
