Theo is a gorgeous boy who was found as a stray with his brother, Thad. Both are super sweet dogs, and Theo is deaf. He has probably been so since birth, but it's amazing at how little deafness affects him.
Theo has done wonderfully in his foster home. From his early reactions, it's pretty clear he never lived in a house before, but in less than a month he's become house trained (here) and crate trained, learned to walk nicely on a leash, come through doorways and go up and down short stairways. He's getting braver about jumping in and out of a car and rides nicely when he's tethered in the back seat.
It has been wonderful watching this sweet boy come out of his shell with people too. He's happy and comfortable with his foster mom, and every day is becoming more affectionate with the other people in his foster home. If Theo sees another dog getting love, he usually comes right over to get his share. He has also perfected the border collie elbow nudge to get your attention.
Theo doesn't have an aggressive bone in his body. He shows no interest in the cats in his foster home and is terrific with other dogs. He's submissive but very interested in making friends. As he shows more and more of his personality, he's also becoming more playful. He loves his walks and has just started taking an interest in toys.
Theo's lack of hearing is rarely an issue. He's learning signs quite easily and is happy to follow direction. He's also likely to stay close to his people outside in the yard. However, since he can't hear an off-lead command or warning, it is vital that his new family understand that he must always be on leash or in a fenced area. While Theo is the soul of gentleness, he will not be placed in a family with young children. It would not be fair to a child to be responsible for keeping him from slipping out a door or getting loose. He loves the security of his crate, so a crate will be needed in his new home.
Theo would do best in a relatively quiet home that will give him the time he needs to bond with his new family. Since Theo has always had the companionship of his brother and fusses if he is left home alone, he should have a canine friend in his new home. He could be adopted with his brother Thad, but he might adjust to his new family faster without having his brother to lean on.
If you would like to have Theo join your family, please fill out an application, and then contact his foster mom, Cathy, at email@example.com. Theo is neutered, heartworm negative, and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. All potential adopters are required to have a home visit prior to placement of one of our rescues. The adoption fee for Theo is $300. We offer a two-week trial period when you adopt one of our dogs.
Thank you for considering a rescue!
