Roy is looking for someone who truly wants to help a rescue dog. He was picked up as a stray with two other dogs who were more outgoing and were adopted quickly. This left Roy feeling scared and alone. He has been in foster homes for a long time and has progressed as much as he can in a group situation. This sweet boy needs a home where he can be someone's best friend.
Roy is very comfortable and happy in his current foster home. He gets along well with the other dogs, cats, birds, goats and sheep and loves his foster mom. He is wonderful in his crate, obedience trained and likes car rides. He is fine with handling and grooming by his foster mom and loves being scratched behind his ears.
However, he is very nervous around new people and new situations though he will behave well on a leash no matter how frightened he is. Under no circumstances has he shown any fear aggression, only avoidance behavior.
When strangers come to the house he retreats as far as he can from them. If he's on a leash he will sit quietly but is very nervous. He becomes more comfortable and accepts people who come frequently but never approaches them voluntarily. Generally he will take food treats from someone who has been around for a while but will back away if they try to touch him. He would benefit tremendously from the time and attention he would get in a home where he was an only dog or with a confident dog friend to help him.
Thank you for considering a rescue!
